I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list

I started SUMAC after years of working and directing various nature camps, at Grundy Lake Provincial Park and a teaching at a forest school in Toronto.  I am now an Ontario Certified Teacher working in the Kingston area.

I am constantly inspired and amazed by the world around me, from tiny brilliant metallic sweat bees flitting from flower to flower, to majestic moose, eagles and bears, all these creatures are a part of our ecosystem, our community.

My goal with SUMAC North is to share the nuances of this magical wild world, helping us all to connect to this diverse community that gives us fresh water to drink, clean air to breathe, and food to nourish us!

"We cannot protect something we do not love, we cannot love what we do not know,

and we cannot know what we do not see. Or hear. Or sense."

~Richard Louv

I genuinely believe that education will help our world become a better place.

Where I live and work today, in the Kingston and Frontenac area, is the traditional territory of the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and the Huron-Wendat. I recognize my role in reconciliation and healing as a settler/immigrant descendent and wish to learn and move forward in healing our relationships with both people and the land. I would also like to recognize and celebrate the first peoples of Turtle Island who have in the past, and continue to be, leaders in conservation.

I am filled with gratitude for the kindness and protection the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee and Huron-Wendat have and continue to have for the lands I have grown to love.

*I have recently relocated from North York to Kingston, and am in the process of updating my site accordingly.*

North York, SUMAC North, naturalist programming

I am an enthusiastic individual passionate about sharing the intricacies of nature and the connections we all share.

After graduating Trent with an honours in Biology, I spent a few years as a naturalist with Parks Ontario. Here I cultivated my knowledge of our beautiful province, and was able to share with visitors my enthusiasm and knowledge.

I moved back to southern Ontario to be closer to my family. After 9 years of working in the outdoor/natural education field however, I quickly found myself missing educating and reaching out to people about nature, thus the beginning of SUMAC North.

I have just finished my Bachelor of Education at Queen's University and am looking forward to beginning my teaching career. I will slowly be adding more educational content throughout the year and I hope to soon begin offering nature hikes again!

I have lots of information on my site for educators or anyone interested in the outdoors!
